In noting C.C. Finlay’s assuming the editorial reins at The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction, I mentioned that F&SF has been published continuously since fall of 1949, a well-deserved and fruitful life.
It would be remiss to not also mention that the June issue of Analog Science Fiction and Fact was a milestone as well- it’s 1000th, issue. It’s worth shouting. Beginning with the January 1930 issue of what was then called Astounding Stories of Super Science, and to today’s collectors as the avidly sought Clayton Astoundings.
Analog celebrated its 1000th issue in the way it celebrated the 999 issues preceding it, by packing in a lot of good fiction and science, but it also added a few special features: an article by former and long-standing editor Stanley Schmidt, “A Future for Analog”, an article by former editor Ben Bova on John W. Campbell, Jr., whose name is legend in the science fiction community, and an article by Mike Ashley, “The Analog Millennium”, which examines the long and prescient reach of the magazine.
Here’s to the next thousand.
